My husband is what I would consider a ‘Foodie.’ He loves any show that Gordon Ramsey comes up with, and really enjoys cooking and presenting food. So for a belated Valentine’s Day present this year we decided to partake in an Epicurean Excursion, courtesy of Portland Walking Tours this past Saturday. It was an amazing experience, something that I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in learning about some great local places in the Pearl District to eat at!
During our 3 1/2 hour tour we visited eight locations total:
- Cacao was a great chocolate shop where we drank some delicious drinking chcolate
- Flying Elephants was a cute little deli where we sampled a yummy tomato and orange soup
- Pearl Bakery was a fantastic bakery where we sampled amazing breads and the incredible gibassier! (This was my favorite stop of the whole trip)
- Tea Zone was a great tea shop where we sampled three different kinds of tea and various tea cookies
- In Good Taste was a gourmet food store and cooking school where we sampled various ‘sophisticated condiments’ that were really good!
- Hot Lips Pizza was a great local pizzeria where we got a slice of their white pizza and a glass of blackberry soda
- Ringlers Pub was a McMenamins Brewery where we tried three of their amazing beers
- Mio Gelato was a great gelateria where we tried three of their super yummy gelatos. (Another one of my personal faves!)
All of the locations that we went to focus on FLOSS—Fresh Local Organic Sustainable and Seasonal. It was really neat to hear about how they use mostly local ingredients and sustainable practices to make their amazing products.
Our friends Lindsey (from Sweet Athena) and Dale joined us for the tour!
B & Dale, and Lindsey & I with our hairnets on before we go into Pearl Bakery.
(PS—Like my scarf??? I’m thinking about doing a tutorial on how to make it!)
In the kitchen of the Pearl Bakery, learning all about bread and pastries!
The tour was great, the food was amazing, and I learned some things about Portland that I did not know before!

You forgot that In Good Taste was also where the Pinot Noir tasting was! It’s not Oregon without Pinot!
