Welcome, 2011!

I have lots of fun posts coming where I share the Christmas presents that I made, but first I wanted to share my New Year’s Eve costume!

Every year my friends and I like to throw a big themed party to ring in the new year.  You might remember last year’s Dinosaur Prom party?  Well this year the theme was “Jim Henson Muppets” and it was a huge success!

B came as the Swedish Chef from The Muppet Show, and I chose to be Big Bird from Sesame Street (my childhood favorite)!

For my costume I wore a yellow dress and pink tights, then attached a yellow feather boa around the neckline and waist of the dress.  For my hair, I glued yellow feathers onto hair clips, tried to style my hair as big as possible, sprayed yellow hair coloring all over, and then attached the clips around in various places.  I also attached yellow feathers to my face using eyelash glue.  I made the yellow lipstick by taking yellow eyeshadow and mixing it into clear lipgloss, it worked like a charm!

I chose to go for an interpretation of Big Bird instead of creating a literal duplicate of Big Bird’s look.  I really like how it turned out, and it was incredibly easy to put together.

Here we have the Sesame Street gang!  Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and Elmo!

The party was so much fun, and I can’t wait for us to come up with another amazing theme for next year!

You guys crack me up. The costumes looked great! I showed Chris and he was like, “Brant’s Chef, but who’s Mariko?” I was the total opposite…NO recollection of this Chef from Sesame Street. Also, you make a much better Big Bird than the real thing, of course :-)
