This past weekend I did two incredibly quick and easy dress makeovers that I wanted to share with you!
The first one was for my friend Jessica. She bought the above dress on clearance, and loved the bottom half of it but hated the top part.
The top was just too skimpy. So she asked me if I could turn this dress into a skirt, and I said absolutely! And it was so easy!
The dress already had a smocked middle, so all I did was cut off the top part of the dress…
…and turn the raw edge under! I then turned it under again for a cleaner finish and to shorten the length of the skirt. The only thing I had to do was to pull the dress taught when I was sewing, since it was already smocked with elastic thread. It was a quick and easy fix, and she loves her new skirt!
My second makeover was on a dress I bought on clearance at Target recently. I loved the color, the light cotton fabric, and the cute scalloped trim. I did NOT however, like how deep the front was cut:
My guess is that it was intended to be a swimsuit cover up? Either that or a very revealing dress. But, just one little piece of ribbon was all it took to sew that front right up!
I figured out how far up I wanted to sew the front shut, then sewed each side of the opening to my piece of ribbon!
It was so incredibly easy, and I now have a gorgeous new dress that I only paid $3 for!
It was perfect, what a difference. And I was able to wear it with my new garden hair piece for my friends birthday party!
