Every year my friends and I welcome the New Year with a fantastic themed party. You might recall that last year the theme was Muppets/Sesame Street and that the year before that was Dinosaur Prom. Well, this year the theme was Dr. Seuss and it was so much fun!
How The Grinch Stole Christmas was one of my favorite Christmas movies when I was little, so for my costume I decided to go as The Grinch! I found an XL red sweater at Old Navy on clearance for around $3.00 and then sewed on the fur trim by hand. I also covered a pair of flats with red felt and fur trim to create The Grinches long red pointy shoes. I wore long green eyelashes, lots of green eye makeup and scary black eyebrows, as well as green gloves and tights. I love how it turned out!
Since I was The Grinch, B came as The Grinch’s dog Max! I cut out his ears from felt, sewed his antler from white fabric, and then attached them to a headband. It was easy, and I love the end result!
The party was so much fun. Here I am with a Truffula Tree, Sally from The Cat in the Hat, and Fox in Socks!
And here’s the whole group! Along with The Grinch, Max, Truffula Tree, Sally, and Fox in Socks there were also Sneetches, Thing 1 and Thing 2, The Cat in the Hat, Yertle the Turtle, Sam I Am, Cindy Lou Who, and Dr. Seuss himself!
It was a wonderful way to ring in 2012!
As I mentioned earlier, today is my wonderful husband’s birthday! And this year, for the first time ever, I haven’t started work yet so I was able to bring B a birthday lunch! Both Basil and I came and visited him at work and it was a lot of fun. I thought about bringing birthday cupcakes, but B isn’t really a fan of cupcakes. What he IS a fan of though are Jammy Dodgers, a delicious British cookie. So I put the cookies on a Happy Birthday plate and made little cookie toppers for each one. (All I did was put stickers on the top of toothpicks—insanely easy)
They were a big hit!
Another thing that I whipped together for B’s birthday was a little party hat for Basil! Isn’t it adorable??? I was able to make it out of paper scraps I have hoarded away, and it was incredibly quick and easy. Basil’s head is so tiny I was able to use a rubber band as the elastic string!
And finally, I also made B a fun and simple birthday banner. He loved it!
So there are a few little crafts that I whipped up to celebrate B’s big day!
I wanted to share one more project that I worked on for my friend’s bridal shower, and then some pictures of the shower decorations!
The last item that I was asked to create was a fun veil for the bride-to-be to wear at her shower. And it was SO quick and easy to make, I think it took me 5 minutes!
All I did was buy 1 yard of white tulle and 1/2 a yard of red sparkly tulle. I then folded each piece of tulle in half and sewed it to a hair comb (which I had in my ginormous craft stash). To sew on the tulle I just bunched it up to the width of the comb and hand stitched it on! Like I said, so quick and easy! And the bride-to-be loved it!
And here are some pictures of the bridal shower decorations:
The bridal shower was a huge hit, and I was so happy to be able to help out with a few fun details!
